Ava jayne Parfitt
Welcome to my page. My name is Ava Jayne. I’m fourteen years old. I enjoy acting, photography and dancing. I play lacrosse as well as track and field. I go to the Peter Gruber International Academy, where I specialize in science and want to become of Cardiac surgeon.
My house is pretty sturdy, It has thick walls and made completely of concrete. We had a pool with a scenic view of the ocean, we had even seen whales from there. Our kitchen and living room were connected by outside studio, where my mother often work on stained glass mosaics. My childhood consisted of running up and down the stairs of the three story concrete structure then running down to the little patch of dirt, sand and pesky weeds that we called a backyard. The house kept my memories. My childhood. My family. But all good things come at cost, but nobody expected at the cost of 298 kph winds.
The weekend before the “tiny” tropical storm (that would later change our lives), small town buzz flowed throughout the island. Things like “Better stock up on water, heard a storm comin’ our way” in normal island dialect, not a drop or fear hung in their voice. Fore no one sensed it would be as bad as it was. So they did; water, dry foods and batteries. Everyone settled down for the rest of the weekend but that would be the last rest they would get in a while. Fore much adventure was to come on Monday, that's when the news broke. Irma had become a category 5 hurricane.
My family had unfortunately, gotten rid of the shudders years before because of rust. We made shift out of what we had, using wooden boards and nails to secure windows and doors, Slowly awaiting the downfall of our island. I spent my days, talking to my friends that were overseas. Warning them if I didn't respond for a while.
Something you so know before I spit out the next part of the story is, I theroize my family is absolutely insane! When the hurricane started to brew I headed to our bunker but my family sat outside playing uno… There I finally conclude my family was crazy. I’ve tried to block out the hurricane in action and did a pretty good job but one image carved into the back of my eyelids would be the image of what I saw during the eye. My neighbors house had tumbled over the cliff, we thought she would be dead for sure but foruntune was on our side.
See something you should know about my neighborhood is on the north-west side of the island and that it’s relatively poor, giving us the least of a chance at survival.
After the hurricane (I blocked out the damage) my family tried their hardest to get my brother and I off the island which eventually paid off when we boarded a materiels boat to puerto rico, a week after the storm.
